Sleeping during class is not a good idea, but getting a good night’s rest can certainly help students in every aspect of their life!
Next week, Ogdensburg Free Academy students will have the opportunity to hear from Chris Sargent, a well-known sleep expert.
Sargent, owner of 3 S Training and a lecturer at SUNY Potsdam, will present, “Sleep - its connection to behavior, health, and lost learning” on Thursday, Oct. 17 and Friday, Oct. 18, to physical education classes. Sargent holds a master’s degree in literacy and exercise science and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist.
Dubbed “The Sleep Guy,” Sargent works extensively with student-athletes around the North Country, including OFA, to propel them to the next level in their sport of choice. The factor that has the greatest impact on performance is sleep. His hope is that students will take away tips for enhanced quality and quantity of sleep. It is the most important aspect of our lives and is overlooked in the lives of our children today.
In listening to the tools that he will provide for better sleep, the goal is that our students will be smarter, healthier, and happier in their everyday lives. As a result, it will positively affect their ability to be attentive and be at their highest potential in the classroom.
