Ogdensburg Free Academy — On Monday, June 17 we hosted our first first "Little Devil Dusen." This event is an Elementary Track & Field meet among students in grades 4, 5 and 6 from both John F. Kennedy Elementary and Grant C. Madill Elementary. The Little Devil Dusen was held at the OFA track and field venue.
The name Little Devil Dusen is a fun alternative to the Van Dusen Memorial Track-Field Invitationals we host at OFA. The Van Dusen Memorial Track-Field Invitational is named after Dr. Fred Van Dusen, who was the OFA principal and an avid track supporter in the late 1800s and early 1900s. This year, we held the 100th Van Dusen Invitational!
Before the meet, teams of students prepared their own banners for a parade as they entered the track. Throughout the Little Devil Dusen, students competed in a wide arrangement of Track & Field categories such as Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus Throw, 100 Meter Dash, 55 Meter Dash, 200 Meter Dash, and the 4x100 Meter Relay.
"We have some amazing elementary athletes and future Blue Devils here in our district. Fun was had by all! It was a great day of healthy competition on the Track!" School Counselor and Coach for Girls Varsity Track & Field Arika Bateman said.
Alongside Akira, Chris McAfee, the modified track coach and a team of enthusiastic volunteers assisted in making the Little Devil Dusen a fun and memorable experience for the students.
"We had several volunteers from OFA's student counselor and from both the varsity and modified track teams. We had past and current coaches helping throughout the day like Mr. Tebo, Mr. McRoberts, Mrs. Sharrow, Mrs. Jeneault who all volunteered their time to help run events and scoring. So many hands were involved in part of yesterday's success." Arika said.
